Therapeutic Group Leader - Best Point Education and Behavioral Health

FLSA Status: NON-EXEMPT

 Definition and Primary Objective:

 Responsible for the supervision and teaching of clients in the assigned program. Assumes responsibility for facilitation of treatment groups.

 Reporting Relationships:

 Reports to: DT or ECDT Supervisor

Direct reports include: None

 Primary Responsibilities:

Direct Client Service

  • Assumes responsibility for the provision of assigned therapeutic groups. Responsible for providing groups for best meeting the clients’ needs.

  • Participates in the development of each client’s individual treatment plan and strategy sheet. Ensures implementation as prescribed by treatment plan and strategy sheet.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of teaching procedures. Ensures the integrity of the motivation systems.

  • Conducts classroom/program meetings and solicits participation and input from clients. Develops and implements a self-determination and leadership system.

 Internal and External Collaboration

  • Participates in weekly unit meetings to learn about new clients and review client progress. Contributes to treatment planning and discharge planning. Actively participates in program development and problem-solving.

  • Supports educational staff and promotes a safe, professional environment.

  • Maintains weekly communication with clients’ parents/guardians, records on “call log” and shares any feedback with the rest of the team.

 Quality Assurance and Effectiveness

  • Participates in daily debriefs and assists in adjusting clients’ treatment plans as needed for maximum progress.

  • Professionally accepts and utilizes conceptual feedback for professional development thereby attaining practitioner certification. Meets and maintains criteria for professional certification in TFM.

  • Performs all levels of crisis intervention including de-escalation strategies, life space interview, and physical restraints in emergency situations only. Works to promote the reduction of physical restraint. Completes and passes the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention course and CPR and First Aid.

  • Completes all required trainings.

 Administration

  • Maintains the daily program schedule by adhering to established timelines and activities.

  • Completes all daily progress notes by the following morning.

  • Documents all incidents and restraints on a daily basis and provides prompt notification to guardians and supervisor/manager as indicated.

  • Maintains client point sheets and tracks progress toward incentive and level advancement.

Fiscal Responsibility

  • Tracks daily attendance on unit roster.

  • Responsible for upkeep of program space.

  • Uses program resources efficiently and responsibly.

 Other duties as assigned

 Minimum Education, Experience and Other Skill Requirements:

 This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field from an accredited institution.  Licensed Social Workers and Licensed Clinical Counselors strongly preferred.  Leadership experience in child-serving systems (or in a closely related field) is strongly preferred. TFM Certified practitioner strongly preferred. Must possess minimum technical skills including familiarity with Microsoft Windows and ability to use standard Microsoft Office applications. 

Work Environment:

 Exposed to a combination of office, school, and mental health treatment environments.  Exposed to children with behavior problems.  May be exposed to shouting and clients who may be verbally and physically aggressive.

 While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

 Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.  Must be capable of sustained exertion and be able to participate in the physical restraint techniques and exercises required to ensure safety of clients at all times.
